I started paying attention to the trans activist movement about 6 months ago when my 6 year old daughter came home from school one day asking strange questions. Her teacher was teaching the class “there’s no such thing as boys and girls”.

Since then, I’ve found mothers sharing their heart wrenching accounts of daughters getting hormone pills within a day of showing up at a Dr’s office, teenagers get mastectomies while trans activist Doctors cheer them on and say not to worry, they can always get their boobs back in the future if they want some, a biological male has won the women’s world championship cycling title, a male convicted paedophile who “feels like a woman” rapes and assaults multiple women (with his penis) before and after being admitted to a women’s prison and the British parliament is silenced from having any kind of reasonable discussion about the matter. And now the Editor of a prestigious university philosophy newsletter lost his job for saying “women don’t have penises”.

The world has gone mad.

We’re living in a Kafkaesque competition for who can scream “Victim!” the loudest. And right now, those are the trans activists.

Acting with the best of intentions, we’re told.

Even though rational trans people are starting to come out against the movement saying wait a minute! – women and others have good questions we shouldn’t be ignoring. And, it’s not ok to rush people into hormonal and surgical transitioning. That the gate keeping model that used to be in place for trans people to ensure there was a clear need to transition is being replaced by a presumptuous rush to affirm and assist anyone and everyone who claims they “feel” like the opposite sex.

Meanwhile, once reputable universities are quashing valid research into this important issue. Just this month, Brown University removed Lisa Littman’s study of parents of children with gender dysphoria when trans activists protested that they were offended by the results.

But the truth must prevail (if we’re to enjoy freedom and choice and justice and all of the positive attributes of our civil society that I hope most of us still appreciate), and thankfully, there’s a growing movement supporting good evidence based research into the terribly complex issues involved with gender dysphoria. The UK has announced an inquiry into why the numbers of school age girls being referred for gender reassignment has increased by 4,400% in less than 10 years. And no, I didn’t make a typo and add one or two extra zeroes.

The inquiry is encouraging, but truth will be hard to agree on in our Brave New World where anything goes and feelings seem to trump facts. Now Twitter is planning a new policy to “serve a healthy public conversation”. Their stated intent is to remove dehumanizing language directed at identifiable groups. Sounds lovely.

But life is messy. Which groups are going to get priority treatment if there’s a clash. For example, if I Tweet, as Angelos Sofocleous did:

Recent history is already proving that to be true. And yet, if women have penises, then by destroying the meaning of the word WOMAN we will also destroy the way we are allowed to think of ourselves.

Our identity as women has a meaning that binds us together as humans.

Nevertheless, it’s a crime to say anything that might be considered transphobic, even if you’re attempting to engage in a reasonable and civilized conversation about important issues. Even this billboard with the definition of woman offended someone who felt it was hate-crime and it was removed.

My husband and I continue to ask questions and wait for answers from the school system our daughters attended last year. With each question we ask, we get more unsettling answers. Intent on silencing us from any reasonable discussion about the issue, the principal used every tactic she could come up with.

Since when does an elementary school principal steamroll parents when they express concerns about the well-being of children?

We live in a new era. How deep will this rabbit hole go?

After all, the word “woman” is being hi-jacked and the thought police are being deployed on Twitter. How is this possible in a free and just society?

Did someone go and change the law when the rest of us weren’t looking?

“It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words.” Syme boasts to Winston in Orwell’s 1984. Syme is responsible for “cutting the language down to the bone” so that thoughtcrime is no longer possible. Because there will be no words in which to express it.

In Orwell’s 1984 the Party envisioned Newspeak would not only destroy words but turn them into something contradictory of what they used to be.

I don’t see a whole lot of difference these days between the dystopian warning in 1984 and the new reality of censorship fast closing in on us just a mere 100 years after women won the right to vote. All that’s missing is the electric shock therapy. And I’m sure some SJW out there is already thinking that that’s a very good idea.

So what’s it going to take to wake people up to make sure we protect vulnerable children (trans or not) and the amazing civil society we’ve created that gives us such freedom and choices.

And what’s it going to take so women don’t go from a gender who’ve finally achieved so much to one that lives under complete tyranny, or the threat of erasure as some trans-activists are calling for.

There are no easy answers, that’s for sure. I have a feeling it’s going to take a lot of people to wake the fuck up. A movement perhaps. Men and women united.

Because there’s a small group of people quickly adopting Orwell’s 1984 as their playbook for social change. Some of them may not even realize what they’re doing, so blinded are they by their good intentions.
